Cost per sq. foot to install engineered hardwood flooring in Los Angeles?

Contractor has quoted me a price of $5.50 / sq. foot for materials (engineered maple), and $4.50 / sq. foot for glue-down installation. I thought since he's doing our whole house (2000 sq feet) he'd give us a cheaper price for the installation. Do you think $1.50 / sq. foot is reasonable to ask?

US $2.89

I really can’t see you getting a better price than listed below ($ 3.25 S/F) unless you got yourself a lot of quotes and then you’d have to think why the quote was lower then the recommend installation price.
Do you think $1.50 / sq. foot is reasonable to ask, sorry no because that would work out roughly $27ph, you could try to get it for $3 / sq. foot which would run around $54ph for him, but $4.50 / sq. foot is running at $81ph which to me seems highish.

As for your flooring, you could get cheaper if you hunt around, even on ebay you could find it for around $3, I don’t know if it’s similar to what you’re after though.

IMO You should buy your own flooring and glue, do a bit of research by seeing what’s on offer at your local retailers so you could buy the same online which in many cases is cheaper.

Then try to get a quoter closer to the $3.25, saying that getting work done depends a lot on the availability of local labor, not having many installers in your area will cost you more sad to say.
I hope this helps
That is the approximate going price for an engineered maple. Maple in itself is a slightly higher priced product..
As for labor , hes including the glue which in itself is approx 100$ fo a 3 1/2 gallon pail ( his cost ) So if his price includes the glue, I d say its not out of line.
Yes ask for a large job discount..You should be able to get some knocked off. It d probably be a percentage. Some stuff you didn t mention either way.. Is this an open floor plan? A lot of in and out of rooms? Some of this can drive up the cost a bit and may effect your job.
Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Installation is $3.50 sq ft here. You will get a deal on the flooring, not the installation.
I think if you suggested $1.50 sq ft, you will insult the contractor and probably loose him. He told you his price, and if you do not like it, then you should get an estimate from a few others. Careful though…it is flooring…you go cheap, and you will get what you pay for.
