Which is better, engineered or sold hardwood flooring. Engineered is less expensive and looks the same as solid hardwood floors. Is there any difference?

Engineered wood is cheap because its not wood. It is really a high density fiberboard or a pressed wood composite with a hard surface. Two different products. I had a laminate floor, it was easy to install and easy to clean. Wood is very costly but looks expensive vs. the laminate that looks cheap. Decide which is best for your living condition and budget. Laminate cost around $3 – 5.00 per sq. ft. Hard wood cost $8 – 20.00 per sq. ft.
some engineered flooring is only a thin layer of wood that is applied onto a composite wood product. It doesn’t give you the wear level or quality of of real hardwood. however, the more expensive engineered flooring have more sealent applied to make the floors last much longer. i guess you would save money in the long run with quality, expensive engineered flooring over real wood depending on the amount of traffic you’d expect over the life of the flooring.
There are several differences in the material. The finish on engineered and prefinished hardwood is typically better than anything that can be applied on site. The solid hardwood flooring can be refinished in the future and the engineered can not. If you are worried about the flooring getting wet than use solid it can be dried out and refinished. Depending on the engineered product if someone even spills a cup of water it may cause the material to swell and that will not go away.
If you can afford it go with the solid material. Prefinished is great. IF you plan on keeping the floor for years the fact that is can be refinished is a big cost saver. if you refinish the prefinished stuff you will loose the curved edge.

“Most flooring is pretty unimaginative and boring. However, the following is a selection of cool floors which aim to keep you staring at the ground; just make sure you don’t bump into anyone. Enjoy, and please let us know which one is you favorite.”
You might check into polishing your existing concrete floors or even staining them. The finish can be very nice, for roughly the same price as wood or tile.

this floor will for sure have problems in the future, the wood is now fixed to the concrete floor, both materials expand and contract at different rates, even if the adhiesive was very elastic this floor will still have popping and cracking issues.

Your real problem is going to be matching the area that was bleached lighter with the remainder of the wood floor. Bleach is a very thin chemical and when applied to wood, can soak into wood fairly deep because of the capillary action of the wood pores.
First, I would strip the entire surface using a floor sander. Be careful though, because if you use a heavy grit, the sanders with some weight can sand down quickly. Go slowly so you don't produce valleys or high low spots in the floor (this will be very noticeable once finished and waxed). After you've stripped the floor, you'll have to re-stain it. Since the boards exposed to the bleach will probably be much lighter, you'll have to apply extra coats to those areas, working carfeully to blend it with the darker areas. I'd even try using a brush and feather or blend it into the daker area depends on the area exposed to bleach). Don't put it on thick, or you'll have to wipe it up with a cloth (turning it lighter) or wait forever for it to dry.
Once you've matched the color best you can, you're ready to apply a sealant. I'd recommend a polyurethane finish, since thy're pretty resilient and long-lasting. Then if you want, you could follow-up with a good floor wax.
Good luck
go 2 wal mart they have this stuff there that gets it shiny n takes out the scratches its not to expensive..

hell no! A little barf/chewed waffle on hardwood is no contest with pee in a dryer! Sorry,
I take it you’re talking about the other vid with the Almax in. The steel is a very particular alloy and goes though quite a few processes in order to get that ultra hard coat but retain inner ductility. I don’t actually know the specifics and given the amount of time and effort that went into the R&D of the Almax chain, I think the specifics are well guarded. I’m sure you understand.
Very good testimony. I feel like I am at a cross road too. I think about the things I do and do God really aproves of it. Such as movies, music, etc….. We watch people get murder, etc… then we leave saying that was a great movie. To some people it may seem harmless, but I think it has an effect on us and I do not think God aproves of it. We should think in terms of what Jesus would do and if He would not do it then we should not ether because He is our example. Continue strong on your path.

WHITE DEER, PA–(Marketwire – March 1, 2010) – Thermal Product Solutions, a division of SPX Corporation, recently engineered a Tenney test chamber specifically designed for temperature testing of lithium ion batteries. Get yourself an orbital sander and some 150 grade sand paper, and go around the edges of the room. (Make sure you get one that you can hook a wet&dry vac up to).
This way, not too much dust, and you can "smooth down" the rough edges and it leaves a smooth surface.
Now, for allergies…..
Make sure you put your pillows in the dryer for a 30 minute period once a week, (Put it on high heat).
If you have any "pop corn ceiling", get rid of it, its bad for dust and allergens.
Have an exhaust fan in the bathroom, so that you vent out all the dampness, so that you dont get mold growing.
Get rid of ALL boxes!!! (Roach germs and stuff from them, are all over the boxes, so you have to get them out of the house! All card board boxes…
Wash all beddings once every two weeks. Pillows, heated up once a week.
An electronic air cleaner is a "must" for those with allergies, it takes 99 percent of allergens out of the air, if cleaned once a month. (I like to clean mine every two weeks in the dishwasher).
If you can, get a "whole house" vacumn system. (about 500 bucks to retrofit a house for that ..PCV pipe being put in the walls).
This allows you to vacumn and the exhaust, goes Out-Side the house, instead of being recirculated into the air…
If you cant, get a vacumn cleaner with a "hepa filter". (best filter on the market that doesnt put "too much" dust back in the air again).
GET RID OF ANY INSIDE BIRD!!! Worst thing for anyone with Allergies or Asthma!!! (I had to get rid of my bird, and I quit coughing with in a day or two!!).
You know about carpets…a defiinite no-no to allergie sufferers. Linoleum floors are better, or wood that has been sealed with pollyeurathane or paint.
Yes, I know, I have asthma, and my family has allergies, so we consulted an expert, who give my son shots for allergies, and even teaches about it!
I wish you well..

''engineered'' is this pure hardwood or some sort of composit??? the only glue down i am familiar with is parkay,,and that is pure wood but in chopped up squares.
All the others i have only nailed down.
This vacuum is light and easy to use. The best feature is the ability to go from hardwood floors to carpet by sliding a button. It cleans well. The two negatives are 1) the upholstery brush is too small to do any good, and 2) the bags fill up quickly as they are small. This does not prevent me from recommending this vacuum cleaner however.
I agree site sponsors or advertising isn’t either going to pay enough nor be reliable enough to give people confidence. I would certainly agree if the question to Facebook/Friendfeed is “would you give us the/some source code and if so under what circumstances” – I’d be happy with the code as it was prior to the UI change even – I can think of a few ways it might be possible to get it hosted – few different organizations probably under different conditions.
Mr. Wang said he and his professor had indeed published “Cascade-Based Attack Vulnerability on the U.S. Power Grid” in an international journal called Safety Science last spring. But Mr. Wang said he had simply been trying to find ways to enhance the stability of power grids by exploring potential vulnerabilities. … Mr. Wang’s paper cites the network science research of Albert-Laszlo Barabasi, a physicist at Northeastern University. Dr. Barabasi has written widely on the potential vulnerability of networks to so-called engineered attack

Ceramic tile is the only way to go in a kitchen. There are literally thousands of patterns to choose from. If it's laid properly ceramic tile will last forever.
If you decide to go with tile, be sure to seal the grout joints. Food spills will stain the grout if not sealed
Stay away from wood floors in a kitchen. If you should ever have a plumbing leak, dishwasher leak, or refrigerator leak your floor will be ruined.
