This is a great, practical, step-by-step guide to hardwood floors. It discusses everything from choosing the right wood, measuring properly, installation, staining and finishing. It is complete with checklists and “how to” pictures. A lot of Do-It-Yourself books are too general. This one is specific with great tips. The measuring and estimating chapter alone is worth buying the book. I also made good use of the checklists at the end of each chapter – nice extra bonus!
This looks like an ideal solution for transporting, charging, and syncing multiple iPod Touches. It says must be used with a Mac though. Anyone have experience using it with a PC?
I’ve often thought about something similar. It’s very sad if true. Imagine a mathematical universe in which structures that exist mathematically also exist physically. Something similar to Greg Egan’s novel Permutation City. Imagine infinite possibility. Given that the option of forgetting, effectively resembling suicide, won’t ever be an option. I think it will all come down to the questions of complexity, how much is there to learn before it’s all about permutation? And secondly, is smarter than human intelligence possible? Or is the notion of “Turing completeness” factual. If it turns out to be the case that there are limits to knowledge, or that we are able to effectively understand everything once. And if it tuns out that human intelligence is effectively the absolute limitation in intellectual appreciation. What will be left? At what point are we going to hit the excitement barrier? Nothing to learn, nothing to enjoy, nothing new, nothing to look forward to. Endless repetition resulting in a static universe of everything. Or would infinite of all parameters allow for infinite novelty? Nevertheless, that might very well not be the nature of reality anyway.
Yea its not that difficult laying down hardwood floors, would definitely be a lot cheaper doing it yourself than having some one do it. it'll probably cost around 5000 or so for someone to come in and do it.

I’ve been working on a multiple select plugin on and off for the past couple months and finally have it stable enough for a first release. When I started this project my intentions were only to re-factor Cory LaViska’s MultiSelect implementation, but it quickly turned into a complete re-write with a focus on speed and ThemeRoller support. Becca, interesting question. I guess if I had to do a job presentation next week, I would try and combine what I usually actually do with more prep. So I would have some sample topics and searches in my pocket so I could demonstrate that I knew how to do that kind of class. But I’d also talk about how I prefer to just talk with the students up front and mostly use their own actual topics as examples in my searching. I found in my sample teaching for my present job, I had to do a bit of narration, as in “Now I would normally ask the students to tell me about the assignment in their own words so I could gauge their understanding of what they had to do. Once we did that and talked about their topic ideas, I’d start the projector and use one of their topics to start my search. So let’s say a student said they wanted to write about ’sacrifice in the Odyssey,’ I might start a search like this…”

See if you can get a small (1 inch) sample of your current wood trim. Take it to a flooring retailer and they can match it up to a SOLID flloring that you can have installed. I recommend SOLID rather than laminate because you are worried about dropping things. Objects dropped on laminate flooring can go thru the laminate and then you have to replace an entire section. With a SOLID floor, dings and scrapes will not show.
